I recently returned from a trip to Maui and since I was 7-8 months pregnant (ideal maternity photo time) and we were in such a beautiful place I decided to take my maternity photos there. I am currently on Maternity leave and will not be reopening until the fall but I wanted to share these with you. Hope you all are surviving the winter :)

Alicia’s 2012 Photography Christmas Wishlist

November 14th, 2012

I have been feeling very Christmasy lately and while I refuse to break the cardinal rule of decorating before Thanksgiving I am getting my fill of Christmas elsewhere.  I thought it would be fun to post my yearly Holiday Christmas wish list. It’s fun to see how my wish list changes over the year because of new stuff coming out or my priorities changing as my skills develop further. I’d also like to apologize that I won’t be offering Holiday Mini Sessions this year. At 5 months pregnant and with a husband who just had surgery and cold season plaguing the family it was just not meant to be this year. I am still offering regular sessions at the Holiday discount rate of 20% off(although am taking this week and next week off due to this horrible cold and Thanksgiving). Hurry in because starting mid-December I am officially starting my Holiday/Maternity Leave and won’t be back until Spring of next year so this is your last chance to get a session from me for a while! Call or contact to book your session today, there are limited spots available: Now booking Nov. 26th – Dec. 14th.

The number one item on my Christmas list is the Nikon D800. There are many things I love about my 7D but many more things I miss about Nikon, #1 being lens quality and performance. After 2 years of loving my 7D I am also dying to go full frame. Although at a price tag of $2999 it’s not happening this year haha.

No camera is complete without lenses. This one is tricky and has no picture due to the volume of lenses I want. I am a prime shooter at heart but have come to learn there are some situations when you just need a zoom. Because of this I have settled on 4 lenses that I think would be the ultimate collection. First my beloved primes for portrait work the Nikon 50mm f.1.4G $439 and the Nikon 85mm f1.4G $1696.95. For the zoom lenses for traveling and chasing toddlers I have carefully selected the Nikon 24-70 f2.8 $1,899 (although due to price the Sigma version would be tempting, and I do love Sigma and it would be a less used lens so price would come into play but since this is a “I’m just dreaming” list haha…) and a must have the Nikon 70-200mm f.2.8 VRII $2,399. Sigh. Someday right?

For Flashes I’d love the Sigma EF610 for the 7D (the SB910 for when I get the Nikon) – $225 (with the oh so portable Creative Light 6′ collapsable stand $49.95, and one of the very portable options of Lastolite 34″ umbrella $23.99 or the Lastolite Ezybox 24×24 $189.90)

Sigma EF610 DG Super Flash for Canon DSLR Cameras

Another thing I’ve been dying to get my hands on is a Colormunki $189.90 for screen calibration. It sure is a pain to do it myself!

And I gave up my DIY strap because it was a pain and not the most secure and I’ve been HATING my normal strap. Wearing a camera this way puts so much less strain on your neck and is much more convenient and comfortable. Not to mention how awesome this combination is with the sliding strap for $64.95.

Add in a Super tripod the Manfrotto 058B (aka Sandy Puc tripod) $314.95 and the Super grip Manfrotto 222 Joystick $92.95 and I’d have quite the awesome gear collection.

 Manfrotto 222 Joystick Head

And because I love you all here is a maternity photo of me at 16 weeks(sorry due to my husband’s surgery and being sick I haven’t taken a more recent one). Happy Holidays and please don’t forget about the Holiday special!

Alicia’s 2011 Photography Christmas Wish List

December 5th, 2011

The key word to this is WISH list. These are a long ways off but I like to do a wish list every year for fun. It’s so crazy to me how much has changed since last Christmas. Last Christmas I had no idea what I wanted to do with my photography, then after a business course at WPPI in Las Vegas I created a business plan and narrowed down what it was I really wanted to do. Now I’ve opened a newborn studio from my home and couldn’t be happier. It’s amazing how far you can come in a year.

The Nikon D700. Yes Nikon. I love my Canon 7D and stand behind the reasons I chose it, BUT I have been VERY disappointed in Canon’s lenses and I think the Nikon D700 is a significantly better piece of equipment than the Canon 5D mark ii. The only thing that might sway me is features on the 5d mark iii so we’ll have to see. Nikon outperforms in ISO (both in quality of grain and amount), FPS (big deal to me as a child photographer), and focus points.

and naturally I’d need lenses to go with it. If I went Nikon I would have to test out lenses and see which ones I’d want but likely a 50mm prime, 85mm prime and 70-200mm zoom.

Nikon way outperforms Canon in flash and so that’s another plus of going Nikon. A speedlight would be nice for some fill light in my studio as well as when I’m on the go. The negative is if I go Nikon my lenses and flashes would not be interchangeable between my 2 cameras.

The One Bag (similar to shootsac). Honestly I can make one for about $35 but it would be nice to have this one. I would use it strictly as a lens bag for easier changing out of my lenses. $109 http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1569311911/one-laptop-and-camera-bag-system?ref=live

A camera that you can focus the photo AFTER you've taken it. More of just a fun thing to play with than an actual useable camera since the quality isn't great. $400 https://www.lytro.com/camera

Yes. That is an actual camera. It detects your movement and when you make a click motion - it will take a picture. Very neat! Not yet available for purchase. http://www.yankodesign.com/2011/11/18/two-finger-camera/
